Willow workshops ranging from plant supports to willow animals.
Sussex Willow events take place at the basketmaking workshop at Horam Manor Farm and are booked through this website. Bespoke courses are available for individuals and groups and can be run at your venue.
Make your very own Sussex Trug using traditional tools and techniques. You will learn how to cleave shave and shape sweet chestnut to form the handle and rim of this traditional Sussex basket. Boards of white willow then need to be shaped, shaved and soaked before finally constructing the basket using steel tacks. Skills learnt include use of a shave horse and drawknife, cleaving with a froe and steam bending using jigs.
Workshop runs 10am - 5pm.

Two day workshop introducing students to frame baskets. You will learn how to set handles and rims link these and then weave the basket by progressively adding ribs and weaving around them, making a strong beautiful basket.

Make a robust, beautiful conical plant support that can double up as a Christmas decoration this winter. Students will learn how to weave in strong way for a plant support that will last two or three growing seasons. The design is based on a traditional salmon trap. If there is time we will make a few willow stars to decorate it.

Learn the basic skills to create a three dimensional sculptural form in willow. Focussing on bird forms you will learn random weave techniques to sculpt a lifelike willow bird.
